To commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War One, Bath and North East Somerset Council held a civic event at Bath War Memorial. An event that was commemorated nationally, in the district all were invited to come together in a shared act of remembrance.

I project managed this event, working in collaboration with a WW1 events working group, and staff within B&NES Parks and Event teams.

The event included locally written material from, and about, 1914 – 1918 read by members of local communities, telling the stories of the First World War through poetry, music, and prose. A short parade began proceedings with the arrival of the Mayor of Bath and Chairman of the Council who then laid a commemorative wreath. Approximately 350 members of the public attended this open event.

I researched content for the event, arranged poetry sessions with young people to write new material to be included in the programme, liaised with local bands and choirs, recruited volunteer stewards and local readers, organised the event logistics, and health and safety requirements for the day.!
